REFORM BEFORE THE

 NEXT STORM

As the United States continues to be hammered by more frequent and stronger floods, we can’t let outdated policies from Washington stifle our preparedness efforts.

Congress must reform the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), so we can provide critical coverage to millions of properties nationwide.

Severe weather continues to batter communities that do not have the resources to plan before the next storm.

It’s time for a serious overhaul of the NFIP to protect communities from destruction.

To Members of the US Senate and the House of Representatives:

As floods become more common and more severe, Congress must take steps to ensure that the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) better protects those at risk, the environment, and taxpayers.

The NFIP provides insurance coverage for more than five million American properties and maintains the country’s flood maps.  However, millions more are at risk and need protection. For that reason, we’re asking Congress to reform the program to ensure it is sustainable for the future.

We urge you to reform the flood program to:

  • Invest in proven mitigation techniques that reduce risks
  • Ensure all homebuyers, renters and homeowners in harm’s way understand their real risks
  • Require up to date and accurate mapping
  • Ensure communities and residents are planning for known risks

While the NFIP provides critical insurance coverage to millions of Americans, it has not lived up to its promise of protecting Americans from nature’s wrath. This important government program is outdated and fails to protect those who need it most.

As the next deadline to reauthorize this program looms, we urge you to reform it before the next storm hits. Millions of Americans are affected by devastating floods every year, and it’s time the NFIP was equipped to fit the country’s needs.

SIGN OUR PETITION TO TELL CONGRESS TO MAKE REFORMS BEFORE THE NEXT STORM STRIKES.
